Playing with Sandy: Analougus colors with an Accent

I am starting a new blog to link to my  WORD PRESS and PodBean blogs.  The other blogs are for my own blogging topics.  Here I plan to connect and link with other blogs.  I am hoping this site will allow me to post better pictures as I have been having problems with formatting on WORD PRESS.  SO HERE GOES.

THIS is my selection for Sandy's from QUILTING FOR THE REST OF US Tuesday post about color.

I have gone back to my stash of 2-1/2 inch strips and picked out ANALOGOUS colors.  I started with green and then added yellow an blue from the basic color wheel.  I am finding most modern, contemporary fabrics are actually based on the IVES color wheel and have expanded color pallet.  I have shaded my ANALOGOUS colors using yellow, yellow-green, greens, blue green (aqua or cyan), and blues.  I have noticed that beside the traditional names in the Ives color wheel they it has added exotic names to indicate the various shades of colors... ie magenta, fushia, cyan, cleron etc.  Joen Wolfrom goes into detail about the colors in her book, COLOR PLAY.

I have several fabrics selected in each of the colors, as I am planning to put them into a block but I will show that off later AFTER I have finished it.

Here I added some blender fabric that are based in the ANALOGOUS colors ... yellow, green and blue.  It may be hard to view on your monitor but the top fabric has a yellow background and has etching of green, aqua and the fushia running through it.  The bottom fabric has all the colors mottled thru it.... yellow, green, aqua and fushia.

This is my selection of ANALOGOUS fabrics with the accent colors from across the color wheel.  According to Joen Wolfrom's book magenta, fushia, and purple are opposites depending on which color you select as your main color.  Each of those colors are the opposite of green: magenta, yellow green; fushia or spring green: purple.  I think it would depend upon the block you are making if these would work well together.  As I have said before I am not fond of complementary color schemes.  I also think you have to be very careful with value placement.

COLOR PLAY by Joen Wolfrom

I had thought of using the colors of my fabric as the color of the blog fonts but that gave me a headache so I decided to be nice to the readers and just go with standard colors... hee hee.

My next post should be a picture of my block.  Lets see how long it takes me this time.

Happy Quilting
