FAVORITE PEPPER COOKIE…. tastes similar to old fashioned Ginger Snaps
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup dark corn syrup
1-1/2 tsp vinegar … wine or any kind works
ONE slightly beaten egg
2-1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp each baking powder and baking soda
1/2 tsp ginger ( plus, to taste)
1/2 tsp cinnamon ( plus, to taste)
1/2 tsp cloves ( plus, to taste)
1/4 to 1/2 tsp black pepper ( plus, to taste)

IN MEDIUM SAUCE PAN…. MELT BUTTER add syrup, vinegar, and sugar. Bring
mixture to boil then turn off, removing the heat and cooling the mixture
to room temperature. ( I have done this step using the microwave x one
minute.) I add my dry spices to the warm mixture to allow the flavors to
blend and bloom.
Stir slightly beaten egg to your butter and sugar mixture.
Mix all the dry ingredients and sift adding slowly to wet ingredients. Mix well
Divide into four parts / flatten into discs. Cover and chill for several hours or over night.
Roll out and till thin 1/8th inch. Cut out with your favorite cutters.
Bake at 375 degree x 4 to 5 minutes. When reusing your cookie sheets
make sure they are cool between batches of cookies. Store in covered
tins.

JP'S BREAD IN A POT

I have had this recipe kicking around for a while and I keep loosing it. I figure if I write it out here on the blog at least I will know where to look for it. I have been playing with it for a while as I am not sure if it is right or not..... I will say when I ate this bread when my friend, Caron, made it ... It was really good or maybe I was really hungry. She always made it on the days we had an all day quilting event.... Fresh bread, butter and jam... What could be better.
JP Bread in a Pot
2-1/2 cups of tepid water with 2 tsp yeast ( One package)
1/2 cup flour
3-1/2 cup flour with tsp SALT mixed in .... I use table salt, but other types have been used. (non stick)
Pour the yeast liquid into the pot and mix. Stir til well incorporated. This will be a wet dough.
Put aside with the lid on the pot to allow the bread to proof. .... one to two hours.
After the first proof knock the dough down to deflate.
Cover and put into the refrigerator. I do this first thing in the morning so we can have it for dinner.
I also have proofed the dough over night but do not let it go past 10-12 hours.
Bake in 400 degree oven for 40 minutes.... uncovered.
And before you ask I do not know who the heck JP was .... I just got a xeroxed copy of the original recipe which I loose on a regular basis .... BUT now I know where to look for it.

I think the kind of yeast you put right into the flour works best for this recipe.
Yeast gets killed by salt so try to let the yeast develop before you add the salted flour.

January Silent Auction to support Project Linus . . . .

Our local chapter of Project Linus
has been given a lot items that are intended to be used for Project Linus, but
that we cannot turn into quilts. Or if
we could, the quilts would not be kid-friendly or too big or too costly for
Project Linus to have quilted. Project
Linus wishes to sell off quilted donations that are not kid friendly.
We will be setting up a silent auction of donation
of quilts and items. Items will have pre- set prices and we will be
able bid on the items. Other guilds and groups will be invited to attend.
The 17 items are:
A beautiful hand appliqued flannel
quilt top
A simple 20" x 30" double
wedding ring pattern appliqued on a
white background, but the pieces in the rings are 30s and 40s fabric.

Pam and her husband Steve came to our guild to show her quilts and talk about her journey in quilting. Pam is an avid hand quilter and has hand pieced many of the quilts she showed last night. She use to do the hand piecing while traveling in the car or waiting for kids at sporting events. Sewing is something she does everyday, usually instead of watching TV or other activities. She said she has been quilting for over 40 years. She only brought a portion of her quilts and I took over 60 pictures of the quilts she brought. Pam had lots of stories and gave a wonderful and interesting lecture.
Her husband Steve is supportive of her quilting endeavors and has made some small quilts. He is the Chaplin for his volunteer fire station and has made banners and donation quilts.
Pam believes in supporting the efforts of her local quilting groups so she has made many of the quilts they have organized as group efforts. She has blocks of the months, round robins, mystery quilts, samplers and block swap quilts. Many of the quilts were hand pieced and hand quilted. Our guild members were impressed with her presentation.

Some speakers limit how far they are willing to drive due to family and work considerations.
Many older quilters do not have a web page. I obtain verbal permission to post contact information. Those quilters with web pages I copy and paste contact information from their web page.
Many speakers have EMAIL CONTACT FORMS on their web page to limit spam, and robo- contacts . They want only legitimate contact. This may be only way you can contact the speaker. Check the CONTACT / ABOUT pages on the web sites.
CHECK the LINKS pages on the web page of the speaker. They often provide contact to friends and fellow speakers they admire and are a good source of information.
Sometimes the only way to contact a speaker is to PRIVATE MESSAGE them on their face book space.
Last resort contact the guilds they have given lectures at for contact information. YOU can also talk to guild member/ coordinator about their experience with the speaker.

Friendship:
We have been friends for several years and share a passion
for quilting. But our designs and techniques are totally opposite.
Linda likes to paper piece, machine piece and make bargellos. Some of her
paper piecing is very complex and uses thousands and thousands of pieces.
Leslie prefers to do hand needle turn applique, wool applique, red work and
color tinting fabric. Together, we bring sixty to ninety quilts to show,
which should please everyone.

Friendship:
We have been friends for several years and share a passion
for quilting. But our designs and techniques are totally opposite.
Linda likes to paper piece, machine piece and make bargellos. Some of her
paper piecing is very complex and uses thousands and thousands of pieces.
Leslie prefers to do hand needle turn applique, wool applique, red work and
color tinting fabric. Together, we bring sixty to ninety quilts to show,
which should please everyone.

When
I get desperate for speakers I start calling quilt shops in a 100 mile
radius around my town. Quilt shops often have teachers willing to come
and give a workshop. Eye Candy aka TRUNK SHOWS of all kind of quilts
are often shown at the guild meeting. The prices of the lectures and
workshops tend to be less expensive but still of a high quality.
